Amo Jones has quickly become one of my favorite authors, because her writing is so captivating and easy to read. When I heard that she has been working on a new book, I had to read it ASAP, which is why I’m so glad I got an ARC of Flip Trick. What I got is an amazing story full of twists and turns and heartbreaking moments with a hint of humor and intense scenes.
None-bitchy heroine? CHECK!
Hot swoon-worthy male characters? CHECK!
Interesting plot twists? CHECK!
Moments, which keep you on the edge? CHECK!
Great side characters? DOUBLE CHECK!
We’re human, we’re supposed to shed raw emotion and be violently different. More people need to embrace their differences. You don’t want to look back at photos when you’re eighty years old and think Damn, none of those opinions really mattered. I should have just been me.
The story centers around Amethyst, who lives her college life and concentrates on studying and her hobbies. One meeting with Maddox Stone changes her life. Not only is he her first one-night stand but she also soon figures out that he is her step brother. This is where the interesting part begins.
I want Ame to be my best friend. She doesn’t give a damn about what others think about her. She does what she wants and dresses how she pleases. This is the reason why I love her character so much. She developed throughout the story. At the end she is this strong woman, who loves unconditionally and stands up for those she loves and for her beliefs. She has her ups and downs. I can’t say that all her decisions were great, but she is very human and I kind of understand her.
I feel like I’m doing something wrong. But how can something be so wrong when the wires that the warning signs are held up by are of feelings that feel so right?
I absolutely love the realistic feel of this story. Everything feels so real. The characters’ behavior. The plot twists. Even the “bad” things in it. Everything clicked very well from the beginning to the end. At one point everything was so smooth and great and in the next chapter it all went to hell. The twists kept me on edge while reading. Just when you thought you could finally relax a bit, things got even more complicated.. I loved how anxious it made me feel.
Let’s talk about Maddox for a bit. I was confused about him at first, but ended up liking him a lot. He is a perfect hero thanks to his imperfections. He always did the right thing even though it was bad according to everyone else. I envy him his courage to do it. I was like: “NOOOOOOOOOOO DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!” But later I understood. He would sacrifice himself for the good of others. The part I didn’t like so much about him is his explosive nature. Not that I hated it, but it made me pause a little.
I don’t know why things happen the way they do, but I believe that the result is always the same. I believe in fate. If you veer off course, fate will help you back on. It wouldn’t matter what direction you took eventually, your car would lead you to the destination you needed to be at.
The side characters are also amazing, for example Maddox’s brothers or Ame’s friend Leila. I wouldn’t mind reading a book about Wolf or Talon as well, pretty please *insert angel emoji here*. I had this warm good feeling inside when they took care of their loved ones. It was so nice to witness how much all the characters were there for each other, not just in the good but also in the bad times. I really loved it.
Flip Trick is an emotional roller-coaster about love, friendship, family and so much more. It is a story about how love can destroy you and make you whole again. It is also about the strength of friendship and people being there for each other no matter what. The story is told from both Ame’s and Maddox’s point of view, which helped the dynamics of the story a lot.
The book is really captivating and you won’t be able to put it down before you read the epilogue. Some might say it is full of drama, but I say it depends on the reader. I loved it very much and I’m sure a lot of other people will as well.
